Hubert and Mary Broekert
Missionaries to Cambodia

Dear Pastor Mullen,
Thank you for your partnership in our ministry.  Our newest prayer letter is being written now and you should receive that shortly.I received the Lord while serving in the military.  It was through the witness of some of my military friends and Christians at a small Baptist church.  After the military I entered Bible school, graduating from Western Baptist Bible College in Salem, Oregon.  I then attended and graduated from Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary.  During seminary I met Mary while attending her church.  The Lord called me for full-time service during college and I surrendered my life for Him.
Mary grew up in a Christian home near Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She was saved at an early age and at the age of eleven God called her to be a missionary doctor.  She graduated from Grand Valley State College (B.S.) and Michigan State University where she earned her M.D. degree. She then did a residency in Grand Rapids.
Mary and I were married in 1973 during my time in seminary and during her undergraduate training.  In time the Lord gave us five children, three girls and two boys.  Immediately following Mary's medical training in 1981 we left for linguistics school and then to Quebec to study the French language.  We worked in Africa in both Mali and Central African Republic.  In Central African Republic we worked in a mission hospital and helped churches develop independence.
In 1995 we believed our work in Africa was completed and God took us to a creative access country in Asia where we worked for four years.  Mary worked in a clinic while I taught English and Bible classes.  When on our furlough we discovered that we were not allowed to return to that country.  We then went to Cambodia.  In Cambodia Mary works in a government hospital, does evangelism and teaches Bible classes.  I have use various methods, such as teaching English, teaching computer and Bible studies  to evangelize. God has used us to begin a local church in the rural town of Koh Kong.  We are hoping it will become independent this term.  We also are looking forward to working with this group of Christians to start new works in the outlying areas of our province. We serve with Baptist Mid-Missions.  Please pray for God to call others to join the team and serve Him in Cambodia. I will be leaving for Cambodia April 18 and Mary will follow May 9.  I will leave early in order to prepare the house where we will be living. Thank you for praying for God's work through us in Cambodia.
In Christ,

Hubert Broeckert
